This is a wrought iron with 26c3 core. 26c3 is a fine grained high carbon steel that is great for chef knives. The wrought iron on this knife is from an antique wagon wheel. The handle of this knife is composed of Missouri flame box elder and African Blackwood ferrule. This knife definitely has a workhorse grind to it that is slightly higher than I would do for my low bevel kasumi. After working the bevel on stones I handsanded the blade and etched in coffee, I then removed most of the oxides with a loose abrasive. This has left a bright finish on the core steel with some character showing through the wrought.
